Welcome to the Website of the Research Project ‘Gender Innovation’!
Equal participation of women in the culture of innovation and equal representation of women’s scientific achievements and potential are necessary conditions for the sustainable and future-oriented development of Germany. However, despite many years of political efforts to implement gender equality in all areas of society, the equal participation of women in science, research and innovation and the equal representation of their scientific achievements and potential have not been achieved.
This lack of equality also applies in the social sciences and humanities, which are key disciplines in understanding the processes of human coexistence and the cultural products of human existence. In view of their intrinsic proximity to the subjects they deal with, analyses and critiques from these disciplines can bring about social and political change and set innovations in motion.
Of the scientific displines, the social sciences and humanities contribute most immediately and clearly to analyses and critiques in terms of how gender works in our society and thus to its culture of innovation. The social sciences and humanities are thus highly significant in terms of the establishment and enforcement of equal rights for women, both inside and outside academia.
It is unquestioningly assumed that the scientific achievements and potential of women academics in these disciplines are recognised as a matter of course. At the same time, however, it must be asked how adequately social problems can be understood and social and political changes brought about if there is no reflection on to what extent a so-called gender bias in the social sciences and humanities exists and that epistemic innovations by women in these disciplines remain underexposed or even invisible with regards to affecting social change.
The research project ‘Gender Innovations in the Social Sciences and Humanities: Focus on Organisations and Teaching’ (‘Gender Innovations’) bases its research on such considerations.
